The CATAPULT Project’s LSP MOOC is both a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course for language teachers and a course for student teachers as part of initial teacher education programmes. Take a sneak peek at the course in the following video:
The course aims to meet the needs of 21st century LSP teachers by offering them training in both LSP pedagogies and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) integration. The course will enable them to develop some of the key competences identified in the CATAPULT project (see the common competence framework – CCF).
Hi!
My name is Poppy and here are three things about me:
#1 I am a Senior English Lecturer at Turku University of Applied Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering and Business. I teach and work with Information Technology students and International Business online students. What I love about my work is the interaction with students and colleagues and the hands-on nature of my courses. In that respect, I consider myself a teaching practitioner.
#2 I have been participating in and coordinating courses that integrate core subjects and language and communication e.g., Practice Enterprise and Product Development. In such courses, we work in a teacher team and we coach small student groups. This is an eye-opening experience because I gain an understanding of the core subjects, the work my students will be doing so that I can design my English courses better. An added bonus is that I get updated on all the latest product ideas the students have.
#3 I like to fiddle digital tools, Learning Management Systems and MOOCs.
I've done quite a lot of the things that teachers of English as a Foreign language can do in their careers, including writing materials for ESP courses, working online, being involved in international examinations, and teacher training. Right now I'm especially interested in Moodle Virtual Learning Environment and creating more interesting communities of online teachers. I'm originally from England, but I've spent practically my whole career working in Russia.

You may choose to participate in this course at any of the levels described below, depending on what you want to get out of the course:
- "Browser level": you want to view and read the course materials to gain an insight into LSP pedagogy. Your objective is to go through the materials each week without doing the quizzes or more complex assignments. Although you are welcome to participate in this way, you will not be awarded any badge or certificate if you choose this option.
- "Tester level": you want to view and read the course materials, but also to take the quizzes in each module to gain badges. You will need to score 50% or above to be awarded the badges.
- "Creator level": you want to view and read the course materials, to take the quizzes in each module and to complete assignments to be awarded a Certificate. In addition to quizzes, you will be expected to complete more complex activities at the end of each module, which may include preparing materials for a class, designing an activity for the classroom, planning a lesson/set of lessons, etc. These will be uploaded onto the platform (instructions will be given on how to do this) for your peers and/or instructors to comment on. All of your completed activities will also be compiled in your own portfolio.
Experience in a classroom setting as a language teacher, and familiarity with pedagogy and/or integrating ICT in language teaching will be an advantage, though it is not a requirement for participating in this MOOC.
Participation in Season 6 of the course is free of charge for those intending to engage in the course at browser, tester and creator levels (see above).
